From Nippers to elite Ironman and Ironwoman competitors, all our members have the chance to take part in surf sports at local, regional, state, national, and even international levels. Unlike many other sports, our competitions exist first and foremost to sharpen lifesaving skills — all to help keep our beaches safe.
There are plenty of disciplines to suit every interest. You can race in swimming events, board paddling, or ski paddling, or stick to dry sand in beach sprints and beach flags. Off the beach, surf lifesavers also hone their abilities in the pool through swim training and pool rescue competitions.
Honouring our proud traditions, we also compete in march past and Rescue & Resuscitation (R&R) events — disciplines that date right back to the earliest days of Surf Life Saving.
Competitions like Inflatable Rescue Boat (IRB) racing and Lifesaving Competition are specifically designed to develop and test the practical skills and teamwork that our members use on patrol.
And when most people think of surf sports on Aussie beaches, one event stands out: the spectacular surf boat competition. It’s a team event like no other, and a proud part of our club’s identity.
