Surf Club Open Day

2015 Surf Club Open Day

MEDIA RELEASE

On Sunday 18 October, Surf Life Saving Clubs across the state will throw their doors open to the public to provide an inside look at what being a part of a surf club is all about.

Corrimal Surf Life Saving Club will be hosting a number of activities including clubhouse tours, meet the lifesaver, Nippers in action and a sausage sizzle barbecue.

SLSNSW Director of Member Services, Glenn Langley, said Surf Club Open Day gives the public an opportunity to see the wide variety of activities they could get involved in at a surf club.

“With more than 77,000 people involved in Surf Life Saving throughout NSW including people of all ages and walks of life, now is the perfect time to join a surf club. There are literally hundreds of volunteer roles to choose from, everything from patrolling the beach on a weekend, to radio communications, administration and fundraising, or managing a team of competitors at a surf carnival. Everyone has what it takes to be a surf lifesaver,” said Mr Langley.

“There are so many benefits to joining a surf club. Apart from learning vital lifesaving skills, you can get involved with support services such as powered water craft patrols, get fit and healthy participating in surf sports and involve your kids in a fun range of nipper activities that will help their growth and development.

“One of the great things about joining a surf club is that you walk into a ready-made group of friends. It’s also a great way to spend some family time together, while doing something good for the community,” he said.

“At Corrimal,” said Club President Tony Cartwright, “we have a large and vibrant membership of our Nippers program, and we like the parents to be actively involved as well: on the beach, behind the barbecue, on the Committee. The Open Day is a great opportunity to explain to parents what they can do to help us help their children develop surf safety skills”.

“We also want to welcome new trainee life savers to help patrol our beaches and, again, the Open Day is a  perfect way to come and see how it all works, with active patrols on duty and Club officials on hand for detailed information”.

Corrimal SLSC invites everyone to come down to the beach and learn more about who we are, what we do and how all families can become involved with our great organisation.
