Corrimal and Port Kembla Surf Life Saving Clubs have made their case to Surf Life Saving Illawarra to be allowed back into the movement after they were expelled last weekend.
Representatives from the two clubs addressed a meeting of Surf Life Saving Illawarra held in Wollongong Wednesday night.
President of Port Kembla, Dave Erskine says he’s more hopeful the two clubs will be let back into the movement after a meeting with NSW Branch Presidents on Wednesday night.
“If NSW agree with our proposal that will overtake Surf Life Saving Illawarra,” he said.
“And (Surf Life Saving Illawarra President) Val Zanotto said last night there is still opportunity for us to be brought back in.”
Last weekend the Port Kembla and Corrimal Clubs refused to sign an agreement they claimed would have forced them to conduct additional Saturday patrols.
Currently the clubs have no insurance and can’t start their Nippers programs.
Mr Erskine says they have now submitted a revised proposal involving volunteer call-outs on Saturdays and some limited Saturday patrols.
“We want to come back under the NSW banner and be on the beach this weekend,” he said.
“That’s what we wanted to do all along.”
